Winter is the practical time to repaint a Cleveland Heights interior. The house is heated, the crew is not on a ladder outside, and the calendar is open. In a century home the price questions are plaster condition, original trim, ceiling height, and how the stairwell walls get reached. Room dimensions matter, but they do not tell the whole story, which is why the ranges below come with a worked example.
Published interior painting ranges
These are the numbers we publish and the numbers that appear on the written estimate. Two coats are standard. Patching, skim coating, and caulking are included. Paint is billed at our cost.
- Standard bedroom, walls only: $400–$900
- Bedroom with ceiling, trim, and doors: $800–$1,600
- Living room or open family room: $900–$2,200
- Kitchen walls and trim around the cabinets: $500–$1,200
- Full interior of a 1,500–2,500 sq ft home: $4,500–$12,000 and up
What moves the number in a Cleveland Heights house
Tall first floors mean more wall. A 10-foot ceiling adds a quarter to the wall area of an 8-foot room. Stairwells need a plank or a ladder setup above the steps, which is slower than a flat room. Original trim adds edges and profiles that have to be cut clean. And plaster that is sound with hairline cracks is a different job from plaster that is loose or has been patched badly before. We tell you which one you have before we price it.
A worked example: plaster living room and the stairwell
A 15 by 20 foot living room with a 10-foot ceiling, hairline plaster cracks, and painted baseboards, plus the adjoining 4 by 12 stairwell with walls that run up 16 feet. Scope: living room walls, ceiling, and baseboards, and the stairwell walls. Doors and the stair rail are excluded.
Prep: furniture to the middle and covered, floors protected, walls washed, loose material removed, cracks patched, uneven areas skim coated, everything sanded, trim gaps caulked, repairs spot primed. Then two finish coats and cleanup. Three to four working days, depending on how long the repairs take to dry.
- Living room walls, ceiling, and baseboards, with the plaster repair: $1,550, the middle of the published range
- Stairwell walls, about 500 square feet with the plank setup, two coats: $650
- Paint at our cost: about $200
- Total: $2,400. With the winter rate on the $2,200 of labor: $2,180
The winter scheduling rate
Interior work booked by November 15 for a start between November and February gets 10 percent off interior labor. Paint is billed at cost either way, so the discount is on the labor lines only, and the estimate shows the regular price, the winter rate, and the start window.
Questions Cleveland Heights homeowners ask
- How much does interior painting cost in Cleveland Heights? Start with the room ranges above. Plaster condition, ceiling height, and which surfaces are included set the written number.
- Can you paint inside my house in winter? Yes. The house stays heated, we ventilate room by room, and winter is when our interior calendar is most open.
- Do you fix plaster cracks before painting? Patching and skim coating are included. Loose plaster or cracks that keep coming back get looked at before we promise a flat wall.
- Can we stay home while you paint? Usually. We work in zones and plan the stairwell with you, since it is often the only way upstairs.
